Like the first book, the writing felt fairly juvenile. If it wasn’t for the frequent sexual innuendos,  references, and cursing, I’d assume it was YA or possibly even middle grade. While enjoyable, I found myself bored a few times with the characters. The author tried to introduce a massive magic system and world into this book but instead of being engaging, it fell flat. It also was clear that the author expected the reader to have remembered everything from the last book…. I have pretty good reading comprehension and memory but even with  that, I definitely forgot aspects of the last book and the author didn’t remind the reader in the second. I doubt I’ll read the 3rd book — especially if it comes out next year — as this book was fairly forgettable.
