I knew there was a reason why I didn’t like Cinderella, and that’s because she’s quite literally a monster.
We Kept Her in the Cellar is written in Eunice’s POV, who is one of the stepsisters. Eunice quickly learns all of Cinderella’s rules from her stepfather. 1, Eunice must think of Cinderella as family. 2, Cinderella can never be near mice. 3, Eunice must never look at Cinderella between 12-3 a.m.
This had some amazing body horror in it! It’s dark and gory, just like the original story, except this version has more of a cosmic horror vibe to it.
The characters were well-written and I loved the world-building. I enjoyed gradually learning about Cinderella and all of the twisted things she can do, and it was so fascinating to watch her easily manipulate the prince.
We Kept Her in the Cellar is a fantastic page-turner that keeps you guessing. I definitely recommend checking this one out when it releases in September, especially if you’re looking for a terrifying, twisted fairytale.
