Nuclear War by Annie Jacobsen

3.5

A detailed look at the US's theoretical response to a potential nuclear strike. Impeccably researched-I came out of this knowing a lot more about the US military structure than I did before. And Jacobsen is also good at explaining stuff in a simple manner, I never had to reread a section for clarity. The book is also aptly titled "A Scenario", because that's what it is - a scenario stemming from her views and and perceptions of global politics. We never really get an explaining for WHY a nuclear war may start outside of "North Korea bad", or why the US's apparently extremely rational and structured response process contrasts with the irrational Russian one. Just be aware that Jacobsen did not leave her biases at the door, but if you're okay with that and are simply reading it for the scenario posited, this is a great read.
