City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
2.0
I tried to get into it. I really did, but I couldn’t.
I started the Shadowhunters show four years ago, and while I didn’t finish it, I remember liking it. That being said, the book was something I could not get into. I stopped the book after 185 pages in because absolutely nothing was happening. It felt like it was an endless cycle of nothing.
The characters were flat as could be, and I feel like they should’ve been older, not 15-going-on-16. I cringed so much.
I bet the book is almost 20 years old, but dang is it hard to like. The author did an excellent job of making sure it was timeless (not saying which phones were used to show it could be an iPhone 3 or X, y’know?). That’s a good plus. But the rest felt bleh and just didn’t settle well with me
