This is a pretty typical second book in a trilogy, where the main characters are gearing up to fight the powers that be. I still think Ash and Violet’s romance is surface level, because their relationship just wasn’t shown enough through the story. I do love Violet and Raven’s friendship, though, that they are devoted to one another and are strong for one another when the other person can’t be.
The Duchess is super twisted and downright evil at this point.
