I really enjoyed this magical-realist romp through Tasmania that's been long-listed for this year's Miles Franklin Award. Arnott shows a deft touch in his debut novel, with an array of shifting perspectives and styles. There are shades of Neil Gaiman's gods walking amongst ordinary people shtick, but Arnott's vision feels uniquely part of the Tasmanian environment in a way that also brings to mind Richard Flanagan.
