S.A. Cosby is one of my favorite writers and this book is a testament to his place in contemporary lit. - it is a hard story to hear, thematically, but narrator Adam Lazarre-White brings the characters to life brilliantly. I did have to put this one down a few times and get some space from the story, imagery can be quite intense. I was satisfied with the story as a whole and enjoyed the ride, if bumpy.

Southern Noir is the genre I didn’t know I was missing until I was introduced to this author.

CW: violence, particularly violence perpetrated against children, quasi-religious and religious fervor (Christian based), descriptions of wounds and death, racism.
