Another beautiful, sad james baldwin book. This is the most tragic of his books that I've read so far. I would venture to say that it's even sadder than Giovanni's room given that you know from the beginning that Arthur will die. All moments then, recounted by Hall are bittersweet and ringed with grief. On the other hand, this book also is the spiciest of his novels I've read thus far. It really gives Joy and Pain vibes in that way. All and all wonderful, masterful writing.
