The Companions by Katie M. Flynn
2.0
The settings and the power relationships in [b:The Companions|50129756|The Companions|Katie M. Flynn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1576421623l/50129756._SY75_.jpg|71431872] are all compelling when taken one at a time. Sometimes while reading I was reminded me of [a:Jean Hegland|49347|Jean Hegland|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1438479179p2/49347.jpg] 's [b:Into the Forest|86236|Into the Forest|Jean Hegland|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1479868647l/86236._SY75_.jpg|595978]. Those settings haunt me to this day. [a:Katie M. Flynn|18490384|Katie M. But, I would have given anything for a cast list and a flow chart to keep track of everyone's comings and goings. There's quite a bit of body-switching and several flashbacks that made it difficult for me to empathize with the characters. I found that I personally barely cared for any of the companions by the end -but maybe that was the author's intention? To bring the reader face-to-face with how difficult it is for human beings to empathize no matter how much time they give one another?
