I got this book as a goodreads first read and I must say I wouldn't ever have read it if I'd been required to buy it.
Well the writing was awful. The idea was interesting and the book is still tolerable, but it needed a lot of work. I'm still trying to figure out if the inappropriately used phrases which use words with a negative connotation affectionately or in a positive way are the mistake of the author or the translator. The emotions that she describes with her characters often don't match up with the actions she'll say that Kaja is angrily doing something or is snappy when it sound like the incident was a way of teasing the other character, the author also frequently feels the need to specify that someone is teasing when it is obvious to the reader that that is the case and it just ends up sounding clunky, but perhaps this is done because all other emotions don't make sense. Edit: I'm fairly certain these are translation errors. The German reviews look far more positive than the English ones.
The author also provides details that aren't required in some instances when Kaja is cooking the description is detailed enough to sound more like a recipe than a scene in a story where the main character just is making a meal.
Despite how terribly written this book is I will be reading the next book because this one was left so open, other than the Tim question nothing was concluded. We still don't know what is going to happen at the company, Miri's fate is left just hanging and all the questions revealed about Siera just aren't answered. I do realize this is supposed to be a trilogy but at least something should have been concluded
