Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

adventurous dark mysterious tense medium-paced

5.0

You move into a huge house at a young age. However, you only last there for three weeks. You don’t remember anything that happens, but your father decides to write a book about the horrors of Baneberry Hall. 25 years later, you're back at the house and learning that the story your father wrote, that you previously saw as fake, is slowly coming true.

This book is written from the point of view of Maggie 25 years after she lived in Baneberry Hall along with the story that your father wrote about this house.

This is the first book that I’ve read by Riley Sager and again, it will not be my last! This was such a good book! I was surprised to see that it was written from Maggie’s POV and the POV of the book that her father made. I loved how each chapter would complement the other with what was going on. Since this is a multiple POV book and I sometimes find those hard to read, Sager made it a lot easier by changing the font up for Maggie’s POV and the story’s POV.

Another thing that I really enjoyed about this book is that it kept you wanting more. It only took me 3 days to finish this book, which to me is pretty good! I always wanted to know what was going to happen in Baneberry Hall.

This is a paranormal kind of book, which is not what I was expecting. In all honesty, I didn’t read the description before reading, so I had no clue what the actual book was about, but I loved the surprise element to that.

Overall, I highly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone that’s looking for an adventurous read along with some paranormal activity happening.
