Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey

4.0

Matthew McConaughey is a poet, a romantic, a fantastic writer, and a philosopher.

Per McConaughey's words, this is not a memoir in the traditional sense. This is not a self help book. This is more of his philosophy of life. Greenlights. Life is full of Greenlights. Sometimes Greenlights are disguised as Yellowlights and Redlights, but we should focus on the Greenlights. The ones we were lucky to catch, to be at the right time and place, and those Greenlights we make for ourselves.

He uses stories of his life, poems, prayers, prescriptions and bumper stickers, to help explain the stories of his life, ending them always on a good note. "Greenlight"

I do feel the book lost its poetic touch towards the end. Maybe I became too familiar with his style or maybe he lost steam. I listened to the audiobook, read by McConaughey. It felt like he was doing a screen test and the story came to life.

I do not believe in writing in books, but you do believe in it, read this with a highlighter.
