Fruits Basket, Vol. 1 by Natsuki Takaya

Nine years after my initial read I dusted this off and started to skim through it but found myself rereading the whole volume again.

Great set up of the cursed animal zodiac members and Tohru unintentionally finding out their secret. Even though she has experienced tragedy and loss, Tohru remains the sweetest, most positive, character I think I've ever read. Many readers dislike her naivety and eagerness to trust and please but her personality and her never-give-up nature endeared me to her. Plus, I still adore the under-cat Kyo irregardless of his anger issues with Yuki the rat.

A great fantasy manga with lots of contemporary issues and I liked it as much as the first time I read it. Now I'm feeling all nostalgic about this wonderful cast of characters and want to read the other 22 volumes again!
