Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Nine, Volume 2: On Your Own by Scott Allie, Andrew Chambliss, Joss Whedon

2.0

This the the TPB that contains the controversial storyline (issues #6-#10) -
SpoilerBuffy's 'pregnancy', the abortion decision, and the robot reveal
- which I thought was rather messily done overall, so this isn't my favourite collection. On the whole, I've found Season 9's sister-story in Angel & Faith to be of a higher quality and much more consistent with its storytelling. However, this volume also includes the super fun Buffy/Alien FCBD story, which I found rather entertaining.

However, one can't fault the production. The volume is nicely put together, as always, with a lovely cover from Jo Chen. I'm glad she's still a part of the team, because her art is amazing and it's nice that all the Season 8 paperbacks, and the library hardbacks, have Chen covers as it provides a lovely visual identity. It's nice too that the Season 9 paperbacks have an identity of their own that's different to the S8 paperbacks. Good choice.

There's also small, but nice, sketchbook/cover gallery section of Georges Jeanty's art at the end with some interesting commentary (including the story of the 'fake' cover). It's a good addition, because then it makes the collection something more special, rather than just a bind up of the issues.
