I’m not really a fan of most classics, but my friend persuaded me to read this book.

The beginning was soooooooo slow, which made Persuasion really hard to get into. It’s a slow book in general, but the beginning is the hardest to push through. Eventually, I grew curious about what was going to happen next.

The characters were well written. I felt myself getting annoyed at some them and their behavior, which goes to show how good Jane Austen was at portraying them. Anne was a nice protagonist. Mary and Charles were silly. I loved seeing Charles tease Mary.

I desired more from the romance, to be honest. I guess you could call this a slow burn with lots of longing and tension. I wish there were more direct interactions between them. I wish they had just talked to each other. I think it just personally wasn’t my cup of tea. I do appreciate that Jane Austen was able to pack so much chemistry between them without them even having to kiss or have sex.

The letter though… that was pretty good.
Spoiler "I can listen no longer in silence. I must speak to you by such means that are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan."

Overall, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
