Okay I have a lot of thoughts on this one. At times I genuinely did not get what Alderman was trying to say. The entire book is basically a metaphor which don’t get me wrong is good in moderation but everything was insinuated and nothing was actually said. The entire premise of the book is a world in which women are dominant and men are the oppressed. It’s an interesting concept, however I just didn’t feel like the execution of it particularly wowed me. There was no real introduction to each character so it took me a while to follow along with all of them or to connect with them because there was virtually no backstory. I also was a bit confused by the images in the book and I genuinely couldn’t tell which type of genre this fits into. Overall, I like the concept, it unfortunately just didn’t hit the mark for me.
