Your Life Has Been Delayed by Michelle I. Mason

2.0

I hoped I'd really enjoy this. I love Manifest and The 4400, two shows with a similar premise. Sadly, those shows have a plot, and mysteries, and, eventually, answers. Delayed never explains anything that happened, spends most of the time worrying about Jenny's slightly creepy love life, and tacks on a conspiracy subplot that Jenny has almost no part in dealing with.

If it had focused entirely on how Jenny had adapted to being in a new time, it might have been interesting. There were a lot of changes in those twenty five years, after all. The romance angle just didn't sit right with me, though. Her erstwhile boyfriend is just about the most inappropriate person possible for her to fall for. I did like her brother and his wife very much; I wish they'd been in it more.

It's a shame, because Michelle can write. I feel that this was maybe not the right project for her, but I'll be watching out for more books by her, because I think once she finds her niche it'll be great.
