The Daredevil Snared by Stephanie Laurens

5.0

My audio re-read has me liking it just as much as when I read it in print! And Steve West continues to deliver an excellent audio experience. His intonation and pitch selections for the myriad characters is spot on IMHO.

In this penultimate book to the quartet, the third and youngest brother, Caleb, arrives in Freetown and locates the mine, managing to send critical information back to London within days of arrival. Caleb and most of his men, along with his fellow captain and friend Pierre of The Raven and his men, settle in to monitor the situation while waiting for the rescue team to arrive from London. Meanwhile in the mine, they captives have hope again that they will be rescued after Caleb successfully connects with one of the younger captives who is allowed out to collect fruit and nuts every day. Alas, this also leads to Caleb and his men being captured.... which may in the end make the difference when rescuers arrive.

One of the things so interesting in these books is the information learned about diamond mining and British colonialism in Freetown.
