Heaven and Earth by Nora Roberts

4.0

As the Sheriff's Deputy Ripley is used to doling out justice and protecting people. She likes to date when it suits her fancy, and she does not want anything to do with the powers that link her to her former friend Mia and her sister-in-law Nell. When researcher Mac Booke arrives on the island she's determined to have nothing to do with him, but fate seems to have other plans that have nothing to do with what she wants . . .

Having just read the previous book [b:Dance Upon the Air|685379|Dance Upon the Air (Three Sisters Island trilogy #1)|Nora Roberts|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1214282191s/685379.jpg|58217] of course I felt compelled to read this one too. Roberts departs slightly from her usual formula by having two of her female protagonists at odds throughout the first two books. Usually the females are the best of friends even while they struggle with their feelings about the men in their lives. Otherwise it's just as sexy and slightly suspenseful as its predecessor.
