Crank by Ellen Hopkins

3.0

Re-reading Crank by Ellen Hopkins, which tells the story of the downfall of an honor roll girl, after her drug addiction.
I find myself comprehending the book better this time (the first time was about 5 years ago), and I am noticing how the poetic prose writing style is now easier for me to follow. However, since the book is plot-driven, and what I liked about it the first time I read it was the plot twist (which I still remember) it won't have the same shock-value it had on me before. Yet, I can't deny that it contains a powerful message- delivered by a very unlikable (and at times
obnoxious) protagonist.
Without the shock factor.. it's just sad.
I lowered my initial rating from 4 to 3 stars because though I had a better understanding of the book this time, I didn't find it alluring enough for me to continue on with the series. I feel like the message was clear and this book stands alone on its own just fine + the first few pages from Fallout which I'd consider as an epilogue.
