The Part About the Dragon Was (Mostly) True by Sean Gibson

4.0

I've seen this described as similar to Monty Python, but I think that is misleading. Because I don't like Monty Python very much, but I enjoyed this book a lot.

I think that is because the book is hilarious while also having, well… not “competent” main characters. But deeply human (which is ironic) ones. The humor is in the writing style and the constant jokes.

An important side note is how well written the occasional combat is. Something I didn’t necessarily expected.

Read if you like:
Snark
Absurdism
Classic Fantasy Tropes

Don't read if you:
Like Classic Fantasy Tropes so much you don't have humor about it

I’m giving it 4 Stars. Why not 5? The VERY SUBJECTIVE things I didn’t love:
There was a recurring joke with a premise I’m not a fan of. Which only pulled me out a bit because I laughed so much otherwise.
The solution in the end is clever, but I’d have appreciated a bit more foreshadowing.
The book isn’t tame. But it isn’t overly crass either. But my brain is in the gutter all the time! I’d have, for example, liked to see the night after the orcs on-screen, is what I’m saying.
