Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

4.0

You guys, I DID IT. I read a classic, on purpose, for fun, no schoolr requirement...and I actually LOVED IT??? Pride and Prejudice is obviously one of the most well-known classics of all time. I hated reading classics in high school but knew that one day when I had the time I would like to try. Well, with being on winter break from school, I had the time to actually force myself to sit through the old language and intimidation writing. I am so glad I did.

I have never read Jane Austen before and wow, she is actually funny. There were a few moments I laughed out loud at some of the sarcasm and wit. I love the romance aspect of course--not just between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth, but also Jane and Mr Bingley. However, I think my favorite thing about this book is watching Elizabeth grow up and being shocked everytime she does something very feminist for the time. Jane Austen must have been a kick to be around because so much of what she writes would not have been accepted in reality I am sure.

Once I got over the language, I really enjoyed this story and the dialogue. I understand why peole read classics. It feels so human to connect with the feelings and circumstances of people 200 years ago. I am proud of myself for finishing, now to pick out the next classic:)
