The Enchanter's Counsel (Book 1) by Thalib Razi
5.0
I went into this book with zero expectations...and wow I was so pleasantly surprised! π₯°β₯οΈ
And I'm not saying that because the author is like family π I promise I've already given @thalibrazi my full and honest critique before writing this π€.
~~~
The world is coin shaped and people live on the flat sides and well as on the rim. Also important to remember that the coin world spins like a top like normal coins do (I was confused about this, but it was so nice that I could text the author to clarify π). The book explains all of this before the story even begins, but in my rush to read I completely skipped it so don't do that π .
β
You know how we're all waiting for a fantasy book with good diversity & rep?? Well, the wait is over, because this book is it! π€
The people in this book are fairies, dwarves and goblins but the only difference between them is their skin color and ear shapes. Does this cause a lot of racism and discrimination? Yes indeed! The lasting effects of slavery and colonization are all over this book - it really makes you think of the real world ππ.
β
There are also religious differences and I loved that the predominant religion in the society of this book takes from Islamic principles - and it's done so beautifully, I ATE IT UP! π₯° For my fellow SOUTH ASIANS, EAST AFRICANS and specifically, SRI LANKANS, you will love the cultural elements! It was one of the best parts π₯°.
β
Overall though, the writing was IMPECCABLE which is no joke, for a self published author! And there's a MAP!!! The book was funny and had me giggling from pg2 π€. The characters were so lovable and relatable, and speaking of, you get a slowww slow burn romance π . Also, the author is POC Muslim. Do I need to give you anymore reasons to read this book?
*Buy it on Amazon as an ebook or paperback!!!*
