I don't actually mind tropey schlock now and again, as long as the tropes are good. This book leaned into one really bad trope around the 75% mark (man saves woman from her own bad choices) and it just got worse from there. I finally quit at the 92% point when I realized I was skimming and barely taking anything in. Very disappointed. The two stars are for the first half of the book, which had potential!
