Chocolat by Joanne Harris

5.0

A rich novel should tend to all the five senses of a reader. That is what this beautiful book did. Joanne's writing is so eclectic that you would want to read more and more. There are heavy words which blend with the prose so naturally. Only a few writers can manage to do that.

While you are teaching your children that too much chocolate is bad for health, here's a book that celebrates the concept of 'too much chocolate'. And I absolutely loved it. In fact, as my reading progressed, I found myself gorging on chocolates more than ever.

Vianne Rocher is a vagabond woman, who arrives at the village, Lansquenet-sous-Tannes, along with her daughter Anouk and opens a chocolaterie right opposite the village's church. Thus begins a clash of faith, temptation, liberalism, and self-denial between her and the priest Francis Reynaud.

The characters were wonderfully sketched. Armande Voizin is the bestest of them all. You will waltz along with all her emotions. You will have a good chuckle at all her witty dialogues. You will eventually come to love her so much that you'd wish every book to have such a bewitching character.

Once the book ends, you will want more of it and you will go in search of the other books in the series. Because, I am doing that right now!
