The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
4.0
Going into this book I worried that I wouldn’t fully enjoy the story’s twist and turns since I have previously read The Iliad. However despite my prior reading, this novel still managed to suck me in and keep me guessing. The writing is so beautifully done and seamless, that it made the story feel authentic. Madeline Miller has done something that not many authors can do; create a riveting story for readers who may already know the ending. I would even say that knowing the ending beforehand made me more emotional and invested. There were so many scenes that foreshadowed our characters fates, that felt more heavy with the knowing of what’s to come, and what our characters are blind to. Miller does a great service to her readers by creating a novel that all can enjoy despite their knowledge or lack thereof, of The Iliad.
