UPDATE: I've updated my rating to 5 stars after reading with my daughter.
I try to refrain from 5 starring books - I feel like it's a designation that needs to be saved for those books that need to be set apart.
This books was just short of that. I'm now fully in love with the Igiby's and anyone who is on their side, and I want to fight all of their enemies for them. Yes, there were moments in the middle/late middle where I made up my mind that I would finish the book, but not the series, as it seemed to have lost some of it's magic.
But, like many of the best books, the ending not only saved it, it brought the rest of the book up a notch.
I love this series, and anticipate I'll likely buy the set to read to my children. Which should be enough of a recommendation for you to at least give book 1 a chance and see if the Igiby adventures, Aerwiar and toothy cows are for you.
