This is the final book in the original Cynster Series; this is Lucifer also known as Alasdair Cynster. He was the final bachelor of the six notorious Bar Cynster, cousins of some repute.
Lucifer leaves his brother wedding celebrations early bound and determined to find a place to hide from would be matchmakers. He has no intention of being the next victim of the marriage curse afflicting his cousins. Luck has it his old mentor has asked him to visit to help appraise a treasured find.
Upon arrival at Colyton Manor, Lucifer finds his friend Horatio Welham`s body laying on floor, shortly after he is laid flat due to a blow.
Phyllida Tallent, the local magistrate`s daughter is mortified she almost killed a man, accidentally of course.
These two set out on a dangerous path of intrigue and passion as they try to find out who murdered Horatio.
I give this book 3 1/2 stars, the side story of Phyllida's friend Mary Anne, who refuses to let her tell Lucifer about the letters that Phyllida has been searching for got a little tiresome. It was good story line explaining why Phyllida was in Horatio's house but it just dragged on too long. I wanted to smack her after awhile, the self-centred twit, I don't think that was Stephanie Lauren's intent.
