Deacon Black didn't like his ex-wife's best friend BEFORE the divorce - when she comes crashing back into his life years after it - can it get any better? Annalise Grimaldi is many things - curvy, fashionable, and Dani's best friend. But when there is blood on the floor (literally) and a missing woman - the only person she can turn to is the one man she has always hated.

The first book in a new suspense romance series and despite it being enemies to lovers - I didn't hate it. Anna is a really good friend despite her bestie being a toxic jerk (literally this was the most toxic female friendship I have read in a loooooong time.) She is a bit shallow and is nearly Too Stupid To Live - but ends up really growing and changing and FINALLY stands up for herself. Deacon is a badass with a chip on his shoulder and is a complete arse for about 30% of the book but ends up redeeming himself and doing some great groveling in the form of a declaration of action.

It is a slow burn with some moderate to serious heat in the love scenes but the internal monologue level is high and often drags the pace of the story down. I am intrigued by the rest of the team for the most part and wouldn't hate reading more of her books. (Her MC crew shows up a bit and you don't really have to have that backstory to enjoy this one.)
