I’ve had a run of so-so memoirs of late that I was going to give them a kiss for a while, until I saw @stleoscollegelibrary review of this book. And they weren’t wrong, it was stunning. Makes you wonder why it was levels ahead of other memoirs, perhaps the stunning booker winning writer, older perhaps than when others I’ve read lately wrote their memoirs but mainly I think there is a huge amount of self awareness and a recognition of privileges that the author did have, not just a focus on the ones she didn’t have.
