Leave the World Behind, by Rumaan Alam

Is it a spoiler to say nothing really happens in this book?

As a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, I'm actually a little offended. What if the end of the world is happening but you are ensconced on vacation in some nice little cottage near NYC but also conveniently remote? And you're white, middle-aged, and well to-do and the owners of your vacation rental are even more well to-do, older, and black, and they show up? So you've got the world ending scenario and also some race dynamic premise but you don't really do much with either? It just all kinda ends right as the action and creepiness FINALLY starts to happen.
