I truly could not fathom how this series could get any better after the first book… and then I started this one. Royal Assassin has a slower pace than the first, but still I could not put it down and absolutely devoured it. Lady Patience, Burrich, Kettricken, Fitz and even Molly are all characters I was drawn to—and grateful to spend time with in this book.
I did find it one of those books that can, at times, be infuriating in that if Fitz had acted sooner, less misfortune might have come his way. Yet, it’s clear too why he does not act, and that makes the villain all the more hated by me.
It’s a slow build to something sinister and awful, written beautifully and thoughtfully, with characters and relationships that feel real and true to themselves. This series has quickly stolen my heart and become one of my favorites.
