I didn't love this book as much as Fourth Wing, but it still captivated me from the start.
Violet remains a badass, and I still adore her. However, her constant worry about lying and her relationship with Xaden was frustrating. I wanted her to make up her mind. Xaden's character seemed less deep, and while he did grovel, it wasn't enough. Their romance lacked the intensity it had before.
Tairn was fantastic as the sarcastic, cranky parent figure, and his banter with Andarna was perfect. Andarna’s new sassy attitude was delightful.
The ending? Shocking cliffhanger. I'm eager to see what happens next and can't believe the sequel won't be out for another year.
