Regretting You by Colleen Hoover

4.0

Oh twang, there go the heartstrings.

What I loved about this novel is that it grabbed you from the offset. I was drawn in immediately and I didn't lose interest once. It was a deeply emotional and traumatic read. Hoover just manages to write emotion so well. I was so angry at Chris and Jenny. So sympathetic towards Jonah and Morgan. I felt everything that they felt. I can't give a higher compliment than that.

I didn't rate at 5 stars because I thought plot wise it was a tad repetitive, in that it was largely just one argument after another for the majority of the book. Though I did love reading the developing romance between Clara and Miller, I felt that actually Morgan and Jonah should have been the focus, and they weren't quite as developed to me. We got to see the ins and outs of Clara and Miller's relationship, but we didn't seem to get as much with Jonah and Morgan. it felt that the shared history was supposed to make up for losing some of the present day development.

I also felt that the ending was a bit too pat. Everyone got over it all and matured and everything worked out super well for all involved. I guess I expected some residual grit considering the topic.

Regardless, I really liked this novel, if you don't give it a try then you'll be regretting it.
