The Long Patrol by Brian Jacques

4.0

This was another fun read in the Redwall series, not my favorite, but really this just proves that a "dud" in this series is still a great book. I found the story to be a little lackluster, partially due to the construction of the book, but also based on the content of what happened. The riddle & quest that I generally love so much wasn't really present, and Redwall's B-plot was a bit contrived. Lady Cregga was a poor leader and left me disappointed, though she was balanced by Russano.

I really enjoyed the merriment and food, as always, and the maintenance of the Abbey was interesting as well! I loved the owls and their little family, as well as the introduction of Russano, though I was dying to hear more on the topic. Violet was again irritating, but that's clearly just her character. I enjoyed the additional details around the Long Patrol, and the hare (not rabbit!) culture surrounding their devotion to Salamandastron and the Badger Lord.

I recommend to all fans of fantasy and/or adventure and more specifically the Redwall series in general - these book make for great adventure reading!
