Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

5.0

Pretty girls by Karen Slaughter is a thrilling psychological thriller that was both dark and suspenseful.

In this book, we follow Claire and Lydia, two estranged sisters that have not talked over the span of 20 years. Lydia at one point had accused, Claire's boyfriend of some horrible actions, and Claire picked his side. Therefore, they did not speak. They shared a traumatic history from their younger years when their younger sister turned up missing, and never was returned home. It is assumed that she had runoff since no body was ever found. When Claire's husband, Paul ends up, murdered during a robbery gone wrong a ton of new information is brought to light and Claire and Lydia must come together to solve the final mystery of what happened to the missing sister.

This book was a thrill ride. I was constantly on my toes and so many twists!! I never saw it coming. Even the ones I did kind of have an inkling about where unraveled in such a way that they were still super thrilling and suspenseful.

I can tell right off the bat that this book will not be for everybody due to some of the darker and more sinister content. It is very graphic with descriptions of torture and horror and there's tons of triggers that I would highly recommend looking up if you are so inclined before pursuing this read. But I found it to be absolutely intriguing and could not stop reading. I did listen to this on audiobook, and found the narrator to be very well toned, and added to the overall experience of reading this book.
