When by Victoria Laurie was a quick and interesting read from the very first page. I really loved the concept, and though I felt like some of the scenes were a little extreme (specifically surrounding the investigation), it is definitely worth the read. This combined two of my favorite genres, scifi and murder mystery, which was even more exciting. I wish this book had leaned a little harder into the science fiction aspect (meaning, WHY does she see the dates?) but otherwise it was really entertaining while still addressing some heavy topics of alcoholism and mortality. Like I said, some of the interrogations felt really blown out of proportion, and the transition between them did few a little brisk, but I think overall this novel handled its pacing pretty well for the length. I think that this is a great YA read, and I would highly recommend checking this out if you’re a fan of murder mysteries especially.
