The Mistress of Bhatia House by Sujata Massey
Perveen helps an ayah who has been accused of drinking an abortive tea. Very well researched with much detail about the extreme limits and brutal conditions placed on women. Insane misogyny is balanced with descriptions of fabulous food and intricate world building. The story is a complex web of intertwined threads all coming together in the climactic scene. Thoroughly engaging.
Graphic: Misogyny, Racism, Sexism, and Fire/Fire injury
Moderate: Rape, Sexual assault, and Police brutality
Minor: Adult/minor relationship, Infertility, Infidelity, Vomit, and Alcohol
