Charlotte had plans to work on restoring a house. Tragedy struck and the couple she was working with left the house to a grump in Burke Barrett. The attraction for each while working on the house leads to a no-strings attached situationship. But plans change.

Karla just writes the very best slow-burn, grumpy men. This story was no exception. Burke really doesn’t know what he wants now that he’s retired from football and that goes against Charlotte’s love for plans and organization. And yet it works for them. I loved how these two supported each other in big and small ways. The subtle ways they would make each other happy just added to their characters.

Connor and Vanessa did an incredible job with this narration. They were so believable as Burke and Charlotte as well and the side characters. Bonus-it’s included in KU Listen and Read.

I love the way Karla ties her love of U of M football into her writing. Even if it’s not my team, her passion and knowledge shine through in her writing.
