Milk Blood Heat by Dantiel W. Moniz

4.0

Read this as part of Roxane Gay’s The Audacious Book Club recommended readings. Copying from the book description, this book is “a collection of love and sex, birth and death. . . Wise and subversive, spiritual and seductive, ‘Milk, Blood, Heat’ showcases that the world in which we live can be a place of obstacles and heartbreaks... but also one of grace and splendour”.

I enjoyed Dantiel W. Moniz’s writing. It pulsates with both rage and tenderness weaved in in every paragraph. I also liked how all of the main narrators are POCs. Though this book isn’t so focused on race relations, the sensitivities are more relatable to me than if the narrators were white. My favorites are those with sweet sweet revenge hahah: “Tongues”, “The Heart of Our Enemies”, and “Necessary Bodies”. “An Alamanac of Bones” is also a favorite.

Definitely looking forward to her next works!
