The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri

adventurous dark emotional reflective sad medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes

my first jhumpa lahiri novel. i usually don't like diaspora fiction but this was set in '50s-'70s India, has sibling relationships, and spans generations: all right up my alley.

the prose shines through in places, and overall this felt like a less intense version of the lives of others by neel mukherjee
