Dry by Jarrod Shusterman, Neal Shusterman

I really enjoyed this one - although I have to say, it took me longer than normal to read because I found it deeply unsettling in parts. I grew up in Australia's Millennium Drought, which was followed a few years later by the extreme drought that caused the 2019/2020 bushfire season. The callousness and ineptitude of the government in this book hit a bit close to home, and the descriptions of life before the taps ran dry felt oddly and distinctly familiar.

At the end of the day, this is YA. I thought the characters were a good mix of archetypal and quirky, the danger was real and immediate, and every choice had a consequence which made for a riveting read. Thoroughly recommend.
