i’m already afraid of drugs and this made me 10x more afraid of drugs (i’m fully 24 years old).

on a serious note, i read this in honor of banned books week. it was one that i always saw in the bookstore as a kid but never got because my parents wouldn’t let me—the old cover is a bit jarring, so i understand why they wouldn’t want their 10 year old reading it. that being said, i think this should be mandatory reading in all schools. it was incredible impactful and powerful in an uncomplicated way, and the spiral of the story downwards was heartwrenching and visceral. if we’re so afraid of kids using drugs why are we banning books that teach them the dangers of addiction in such a straightforward, unromanticized way? i’m really looking forward to reading glass and fallout as soon as i finish my current library loans.

an easy 5 stars.
