THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN READERS NEW TO THE GENRE OF DARK/TABOO ROMANCE RUN TO SOICAL MEDIA AND HYPE STUFF UP - AVID READERS ARE LEFT ASKING WTF

"Hitched" promised a thrilling dive into darkness and taboo tropes, and as a diehard fan of edgy narratives, I was eager to delve into its pages.

Unfortunately, my excitement quickly faded as I navigated through a whirlwind of chaotic "sub-plots" if they can be called that and shallow character development. While I typically relish lengthy content warnings, here they seemed like random additions to hype up views to get reads...

The premise—a pairing of Lex, a troubled soul from a broken background, escaped convict and Selena, who enjoys the privileges of wealth—while a typical trope initially intrigued me.

Yet, their shared darkness felt superficial, much like the rapid sequence of events involving random killings that left me asking, “What was the point?” The violence felt like an composed afterthought, hastily added to create shock value without any real substance.

Selena's decisions made me want to DNF this every few pages; her character oscillated between naivety and sheer stupidity. After her first poor choice to pick up a hitchhiker, I expected some type of growth and maybe some awareness, survival instincts, something FFS.....but she only plunged deeper into calamity, making actions that had me hoping for Lex to finally make good on his threat.

The narrative’s focus on Lex's traumatic past and Selena’s privileged naiveté struggled to coalesce into a compelling read at random small parts.

As someone who deeply appreciates the complexities of dark romance, I found "Hitched" to be a bland experience.

It seems to cater more to newcomers drawn in by the genre's allure than to devoted fans seeking depth and cohesion.

While I HATE to leave low reviews this book was a whole mess of confusion and huh. THIS is not a reflection on the OTHER works of Lauren Biel... ONLY HITCHED.

While I appreciate Biel's ambition, the execution fell flat, leaving me disappointed when I had hoped to savor a gripping tale of darkness. If you're an avid reader of the darker areas of romance looking for an engaging blend of romance and suspense, you may want to steer clear of this hitch.
