I read half of this book when I was a kid, and it made such an impression on me - it seemed dark, visceral, with the emerging horror of vampirism intermingling with the horrors of being a teenager. I didn’t finish it but it stuck with me. Now on rereading as an adult, it reads like a tacky, brand-soaked artifact of the 2000s with a thoughtless handling of American colonialism and very little depth. It has a certain charm in capturing a place and time, but I’m not curious about what happens next.
