This book was… unique. It started off promising with a really interesting premise but from around the halfway point on it devolved into a convoluted, nonsensical, plot-hole-filled mess. The plot was trying to do so much that it did nothing well. There were attempts at character development but they fell flat, and there was the weirdest, most unconvincing romance ever (luckily this did not take up much page space though). The puzzle aspects were boring and had uninteresting pages of info-dumping to attempt to explain it. Mild spoiler: I could not take the supernatural aspects of this plot seriously at all and it added a level of absurdity to the already unbelievable plot. Overall this was a disappointment. It gets two stars because it kept my interest for the first half but by 75% I couldn’t wait to finish it. Edit: upon second thought I have to revise to 1 star, I don’t think its promising start makes up for the rest of the mess.
