Wonderland by Juno Dawson

5.0

One of the best YA contemporaries I've read this year dealing with so many issues that I feel other authors might just vaguely brush over or mention but Juno has them as the main part of the story helping to build a world that I believe does exist, despite hoping to never be a part of it. The Alice theme just made it so much better and puts a modern spin on the original story. I know now that when I think of Alice in Wonderland, I'll always think back to this book and the Alice in here who is brave and loved and so real and accepting of who she is and what she wants eventually. I also understand more into the struggles of being transgender and how that unfortunately its still not fully accepted into society that transwomen are women or other gender identities. I'm glad to have read this and think we need more books like these or push existing ones into being mainstream and more well-known. Honestly, I'd love to have a friend like Alice and this book has bumped Juno up to one of my top 5 authors.
