When the Sky Fell on Splendor, by Emily Henry

3.0

Everyone in small town Splendor, Ohio was affected by the local steel mill exploding. Like many others Franny wasn't hurt in the accident but her eldest brother was and five years later there's nothing she can do but stand by whilst her brother lies in a coma. In the wake of the explosion Franny found solace in her friends who's experiences mirrored her own. In their free time they investigate local ghost stories and legends- filming their experiences and putting them on YouTube for their small following. There's not much to report until one night they're in the wrong place at the wrong time (or the right place and the right time) and they all witness a bright light and massive crash from space. Afterwards Franny and her friends start to experience strange energy bursts and notice odd things around town. But Franny and her friends aren't the only ones with an eye on the aftermath of the crash.

Science fiction isn't really my thing but I did enjoy the combination of back/forward flash depicting the explosion and their lives now. The relationships were well done and I liked Franny as a main character. A good choice for someone who likes science fiction, a cast of characters, and a tragic past.
