The first few chapters in this book really had me convinced I wasn’t going to like it… boy, was I wrong. That seems to happen a lot... I think, no way there’s going be enough character development or plot or attachment formed to make me fall in love with THIS book and THESE characters. But I love it when I’m wrong. 💛

When I tell you there is so much depth here… I cried more times than I’m proud of, some of it was out of sadness, some joy, and some were literally just tears because it was over. 

She really has a way of writing that draws you into the story completely and makes you feel like the characters are part of your life. It amazes me each time. Kid and Hawke are still two of my favorite books of all time and this book is about to join that list. 

Lake had a lot of developing to do. He was a little self-centered and cocky in the beginning but he grew to be one of the most selfless and caring characters. Dylan was always pretty self-assured but over time she learned it was okay to count on someone other than herself and it could be safe and worth it to open yourself up to love. It was heartbreaking watching them figure it out and stumble so hard through the process, especially with Colin in the mix. He added so so much depth to this story and I appreciate it even more for it uniqueness and for her care with his character. It was really beautiful. 

Definitely adding to my 2024 favorites.
