this book definitely hooked me more than assassins blade did; in the first twenty pages i expected the competition to be very hunger games but it was not and i actually prefer how it was done! i think the murders added a complexity to the tests/competition i hadn’t been expecting and it was a well written side plot. i will say i didn’t expect cain to be the one summoning the demons to murder for him !! there were definitely some hints to it throughout i didn’t pick up on though. i also really loved celeana and nehemia’s friendship, it was endearing, especially after everything that happened last time she tried to befriend a girl in assassins blade LOL . the one thing that piqued my interest was elena telling celeana that ”blood ties can’t be broken” when celeana thanked her for saving her …….HMMMMM……
